Long Service Leave in Queensland

Governed by the Industrial Relations Act 2016 (Qld):

  • 8.6667 weeks of paid LSL after 10 years of continuous service
  • A further 4.3333 weeks for every additional 5 years (13 weeks total at 15 years)
  • Pro-rata from 7 years — but only if employment ends due to redundancy, dismissal (not for misconduct), illness/incapacity, domestic necessity, or death. A simple resignation to take another job does not trigger pro-rata LSL before 10 years.
  • Casual and regular part-time employees are generally covered too, subject to conditions

Curious how this compares? See NSW’s 10-year LSL rule, WA’s entitlement, or SA’s 13-week LSL.

Public Holidays in Queensland

QLD includes some regional/show holidays in addition to the national list (e.g. the Royal Queensland Show “Ekka” holiday for the Brisbane area). Check Business Queensland for the exact current-year list, since regional show holidays vary by local government area.
